The Wire
The media, and lots of our friends, are abuzz this week about the kickoff of the fifth and final season of The Wire.
We got into the show finally last year and gulped down Seasons 1-4 in about 60 days. Some days we watched 3 episodes in a row. Set in downtown Baltimore the show digs deep into social issues often under the microscope in urban environments. We've seen episodes 1 and 2 of Season 5 and it is shaping up to be a great season. Still no sign of Omar, who we are confident will be involved in the last episode. . . . Click the links below for more commentary on this great show.

Consume. . . . .
Very interesting piece that is at the crux of the sustainability issue. Consumption is the key piece to sustainability and the ability of Americans to consume less is the puzzle that needs to be solved. Through Sarah and my travels (especially to China) I have long wondered how we could limit the ability of poorer countries to limit an increase in consumption of resources, and while I would like to think Diamond is correct that if we better balanced consumption we could arrive at sustainability I somehow feel less certain now than I used to. Very interesting indicators that Diamond uses to quantify quality of life, or another word might be prosperity. . . .
